Craig Ross takes over as leading Scot at Royal

Dublin, four behind leader Jack Hume

By the end of a chilling second day at the Irish Amateur Open
Championship, the leading group had been reduced from nine to one as  Jack Hume looked down on the rest of the field.

The Naas player, with rounds of 69 and 70 for five-uneer 139 has a two-stroke lead over Welshman Evan Griffin (69-72) with young Kevin LeBlanc (The Island) in third place with a pair of 71s for 142.

Kirkhill's Craig Ross, pictured, has taken over the mantle of leading Scot from Alexander Culverwell (Dunbar) who had been one of the nine co-leaders on 69 after Round 1
Ross shot a second-round 72 for one-under 143 and is sharing fourth place alongside Cormac Sharvin, the former Irish amateur champion and a Stirling University student.
Culverwell is tied 14th after a 76  for 145
He is one shot ahead of Ewen Ferguson (Bearsden) who made a six-stroke improvement with a 70 for 146 and a share of 20th place.
Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) had a 75 for 147 and joint 29th place.
Greig Marchbank (Thornhill) slipped back with a 77 for joint 44th place on 149.
The remaining Scots have to pull their socks up over the third round if they are to make the cut the the leading 50 and ties on Saturday evening. The projected cut mark is six over par.

Royal Aberdeen's Nick Macandrew is joint 55th on 151 (77-74) and Connor Syme (Drumoig) is T59 on 151 (71-81).
On nine-over 153 there are two Scots, Scott Gibson (73-80) and  Colin Baird (77-76) in joint 65th position.
Defending champion Jamie Savage had a nightmare second-round
