Graeme Brown wins PGA Pros' Stableford

with 39pt at West Kilbride

Montrose Links assistant professional Graeme Brown won the £1,350 PGA Pros' Stableford competition at West Kilbride Golf Club today, writes Colin Farquharson
Brown, who was round in four-under-par 68 (32-36) scored 39 under the Stableford points system of 3 for a birdie, 2 for a par, 1 for a bogey.
He birdied the third, fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth but had bogeys at the eighth and 10th to head the field of 33 players and win the top prize of £300.
Runner-up, beaten by one point, was Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf) whose actual score was a 69 (34-35) with birdies at the third, seventh, 11th and 14th. He bogeyed the 13th and 13th. Fox earned £250.
Four players earned £155 apiece for sharing third place on the 37pt mark, all scoring two-under 70s. They were Michael Patterson (Kilmacolm), Paul O'Hara (Clydeway Golf), Christopher Currie (Caldwell) and Andrew Oldcorn (Kings Acre).
It is believed to be the first Tartan Tour competition played under the Stableford points format, just another of the new ideas being introduced by PGA in Scotland chief executive Brian Mair, including senior events, four-ball better-ball competitions and a Ladies Tartan Tour.
