ANDREW OLDCORN WINS 7,000 euros PRIZE

Some rusty putting strokes and shiny new irons were on display at the season opening Algarvian Invitational. This year’s event was played over both its traditional venue, Pinheiros Altos, and its new neighbour, Quinta do Lago North.
As usual, the field included a wide range of players and techniques. At the halfway stage there was no clear leader with most competitors struggling to adapt to the fast greens.
However, the last 36 holes were dominated by Andrew Oldcorn, whose five under par total of 283 (74-73-68-68) secured the €7,000 first prize by two shots from runner-up Jose Romero (73-70-71-71).
