BACK INJURY RESPONDING ONLY SLOWLY TO TREATEMENT

TIGER STILL WONDERING IF HE WILL

BE FIT TO PLAY IN THE MASTERS
FROM SKYSPORTS.COM
Tiger Woods still has no idea if he will be able to play in next month's Masters at Augusta.
Woods, who held on to his place as world No 1 when Adam Scott failed to win at Bay Hill on Sunday, has been struggling with a back injury.
He stopped playing during his final round at the Honda Classic on March 2 with what he described as back spasms and the problem flared up again at Doral, especially in his closing round 78.
Woods had to withdraw from last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational - a tournament he has won on eight occasions - when further treatment failed to improve his condition in time.
The Masters is the only major Woods has never missed in his professional career, and that is causing him further frustration.
"For Augusta, it's actually still a little too soon, to be honest with you," Woods said at a press conference to announce that Quicken Loans is the new title sponsor of his tournament at Congressional in June.
"That's kind of the frustrating thing about this.
"I've had a couple weeks off and getting treatment and just working on trying to get ready for Augusta.
"As of right now, it's still too soon, which is, as I said, pretty frustrating."

LOTTERY GRANT-FUNDED ENTERPRISE FIT FOR 21ST CENTURY

TILLICOULTRY GC's NEW JUNIOR

CLUBHOUSE IS OFFICIALLY OPENED

By COLIN McKENZIE
Last Saturday (March 22), Transport Minister Keith Brown MSP, along with various guests and long-time supporters, officially opened Tillicoultry Golf Club's junior clubhouse.

Before discussing the new junior clubhouse it would be worth describing the old junior clubhouse at Tillicoultry.
The junior “ hut” was really just a big shed that leaned a bit to one side. It had two steps up to it which probably met no safety standards and you had to tackle the entrance with due care.
It had no windows, so was very dark inside; there were no toilets or lighting. There was storage space for clubs etc and a couple of odd chairs.
Another exclusive point to the old junior hut was the locking arrangement. To lock or unlock the door you had to lever a brush handle under the door to allow the key to turn, needless to say it was seldom broken into! The exterior was creosoted and had no signage.

Thanks to the lottery grant, our new junior clubhouse is fit for the 21st century and hopefully will encourage local juniors to golf at Tillicoultry for many years to come.
We now have windows, power, heating, lighting and toilet facilities. There are chairs and sofas for the juniors to socialise away from the course.
It’s hoped the juniors will take pride in their new facility. The exterior is bright with a "Junior Clubhouse" sign above the front door.
There are paving slabs and handrails which provide a small balcony area allowing good views of the third green.

Some additional information about Tillicoultry Golf Club can be found at
 club. Tillicoultry Golf Club  http://www.tillygc.co.uk/
It has a (tight!) nine-hole parkland course, located about 10 miles east of Stirling in the county of Clackmannanshire.
We have around 240 members with the juniors consisting of 35 members. Our junior section has been very successful, producing many low handicap golfers over the past few years.
We have a good sized clubhouse with function suite, bar and locker room available.
As a local course we strive to promote our club to families and juniors. Our club is small enough for most members to know each other whilst still being welcoming to visiting parties and open competition visitors.

SCOTTISH JUNIOR GOLF TOUR AT ST ANDREWS

 SANDYHILLS' JACK WILLIAMS BEST IN

WIND AT STRATHTYRUM

FROM WALTER BURNS
Scottish Junior Golf Tour
Here are the results from the Scottish Junior Golf Tour Levels 2 and 3 event at the Strathtyrun course, St Andrews on Sunday.
Just for a change it was a very windy day! At least the sun was shining which shifted the early morning frost.
Just like the older juniors up the hill at the Duke's the damaging gusts of wind between 11am and 1pm scuppered a few scores.
However, our young “windsurfers” are showing incredible resilience in these difficult conditions and are developing lots of “quiet” shots that can be controlled better in the wind.
Jack Williams (Sandyhills) had the best score of the day with a five-over-par 74. Cameron Johnstone (Troon Welbeck) won the U13 category with 86. An excellent score from an 11 year old in such conditions.

LEADING SCORES

Under-15 years
74 Jack Williams (Sandyhills)
82 Ben McKay (Crail GS)
86 Ian Taggart (Lenzie)
87 Daniel Gaines (Musselburgh)
90 Jorg Irvine (Elderslie)

Under -13 years
86 Cameron Johnstone
90 Toby Appleyard (Dalmahoy), Ewan Wheat (Royal Montrose), Aamar Saleem (Ladybank)
92 Scott Souter (Elie)
94 Roddy McCauley (Fereneze)

The handicap prize was won by Toby Appleyard with a nett 66.
Ben McKay won the Skills challenges.
Next event is on Sunday (March 30), Level 4 and 5s at Falkirk Tryst where the sun always shines and the wind never blows.

WEB.COM TOUR REPORT AND SCOREBOARD

ROOKIE MEXICAN CARLOS ORTIZ (22)

WINS  AT PANAMA CITY

FROM THE WEB.COM TOUR WEBSITE
PANAMA CITY, Panama – Carlos Ortiz is only 22 years old but the Tour rookie from Mexico displayed nerves of a veteran Sunday as he put together a flawless final round at the Panama Claro Championship and earned his first career title on the Web.com Tour.
Ortiz began the last day one shot back of leader and playing partner Aron Price but established himself as the man to beat with three consecutive birdies midway through the front nine at the Panama Golf Club.
Ortiz, who now calls Dallas home, moved into the lead when the 31-year old Aussie Price stumbled early. A birdie at the par-3, 8th put Ortiz at 10-under and in control.
He later added a pair of birdies on the back nine to pull away from the field and finish with a 6-under 64 and a 12-under total of 268.
Veteran Jason Gore did his best to pressure the Tour newcomer but never got closer than three down the stretch. Gore’s 66 was good for solo second but four shots back.
Florida State’s Daniel Berger, 20, carded a 67 to reach 7-under 273 which tied him for third place with Derek Fathauer (67) and Price (70).
“I still can’t believe it,” said Ortiz. “I started kind of shaky. I was pretty nervous, I can admit it. I didn’t have a number in mind but I knew if I could shoot under par I would have a chance. The only thing I wanted was to have a chance on the back nine. I had it and I took it.”
As temperatures hit the low 90s and the wind dried already-firm greens, Ortiz kept his approach simple.
“I didn’t know if the course was playing hard or not,” he said. “I was just trying to cruise along and put it in the middle of the green. It worked out pretty well for me.”
Ortiz canned birdie putts at 4, 5 and 6 to put his name at the top of the leaderboard. Though still early, Ortiz may have clinched things with the birdie at eight.
“By then I knew I was hitting the ball pretty good,” said the Tour’s second rookie winner in as many weeks. “I was feeling pretty comfortable and not nervous anymore.”
While several gave chase, none of the challengers did enough to make Ortiz nervous. A birdie at 16 gave him all the cushion he would need.
Gore had weaved his way through the field to reach 8-under but the Tour’s all-time victory leader with seven would never get a chance at number eight.
“I thought it would be a race to see who was the first one to 10-under, which it’s looking like it is,” said Gore as he checked the electronic board when he was done.
“I had an idea. I looked at a few boards but I was just trying to play good golf.”
Gore was playing well, but Ortiz was playing better.
“When I hit it in the middle of the green on 17 I looked at the leaderboard and I knew I was ahead by four,” he said.
By then the drama was gone and Ortiz closed the door with a two-putt par on the 18th.
The victory was worth $112,500 for the 2013 graduate of the University of North Texas and that, coupled with a third-place finish at the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship to begin the season, moved him to No. 2 on the money list.
His four-week total of $171,500 should be more than enough to guarantee a spot among the top-25 on the money list at the end of the 21-event regular season and put him on the US PGA Tour in 2015.
“That’s always been a lifetime dream for me,” he said. “It’s what we all work so hard for.”
