SCOTTISH JUNIOR GOLF TOUR AT ST ANDREWS

 SANDYHILLS' JACK WILLIAMS BEST IN

WIND AT STRATHTYRUM

FROM WALTER BURNS
Scottish Junior Golf Tour
Here are the results from the Scottish Junior Golf Tour Levels 2 and 3 event at the Strathtyrun course, St Andrews on Sunday.
Just for a change it was a very windy day! At least the sun was shining which shifted the early morning frost.
Just like the older juniors up the hill at the Duke's the damaging gusts of wind between 11am and 1pm scuppered a few scores.
However, our young “windsurfers” are showing incredible resilience in these difficult conditions and are developing lots of “quiet” shots that can be controlled better in the wind.
Jack Williams (Sandyhills) had the best score of the day with a five-over-par 74. Cameron Johnstone (Troon Welbeck) won the U13 category with 86. An excellent score from an 11 year old in such conditions.

LEADING SCORES

Under-15 years
74 Jack Williams (Sandyhills)
82 Ben McKay (Crail GS)
86 Ian Taggart (Lenzie)
87 Daniel Gaines (Musselburgh)
90 Jorg Irvine (Elderslie)

Under -13 years
86 Cameron Johnstone
90 Toby Appleyard (Dalmahoy), Ewan Wheat (Royal Montrose), Aamar Saleem (Ladybank)
92 Scott Souter (Elie)
94 Roddy McCauley (Fereneze)

The handicap prize was won by Toby Appleyard with a nett 66.
Ben McKay won the Skills challenges.
Next event is on Sunday (March 30), Level 4 and 5s at Falkirk Tryst where the sun always shines and the wind never blows.
