MICHAEL IS MADE OF THE WRIGHT

STUFF: LEADS AUSSIE MASTERS

FROM SKYSPORTS.COM,
Unheralded Queenslander Michael Wright fired a second round of 68 to open a two-shot lead at the halfway point of the Australian Masters in Melbourne.
Wright had shared the overnight lead with compatriots Stephen Allan, Steven Bowditch and amateur Todd Sinnott, but produced another fine display to pull clear of the field on nine-under-par 135
Wright’s flawless 68 featured four birdies and not a single dropped shot, leaving him two ahead of Paul Spargo (67) and three clear of Sinnott (71) and Richard Green (67).
Geoff Ogilvy and (71) Matthew Goggin (69) are part of a five-man group sitting five shots behind the leader in joint-seventh, while Adam Scott battled hard to stay in touch.
The World No 2 - who is looking to win the event for a third straight time - carded a four-under 68 to move himself up to three-under overall and within striking distance of the leaders.
Scott produced three birdies and an eagle on the front nine, but could not quite keep up that momentum having turned for home.
"The course was really there to be had and I got off to a nice start through 10 holes and I was feeling really good, but unfortunately it slowed up on the back nine and a couple of random wedge shots cost me dearly," he stated.
"I'm within shouting distance, at least. Thirty-six holes, there's a lot of golf to be played, and if I play a good 36 I think I can be in with a chance."
But it is Wright who leads the way and the 40-year-old admitted he felt much more at home on the course on Friday, having struggled with nerves during the first round.
"I felt very comfortable out there today,” he said. “I'm looking forward to trying to feel comfortable over the next couple of days.
"There were a few (thoughts) but I managed to really keep them under wraps today. I felt a lot more relaxed in my body. It's when I get busy in the mind and start tightening things up I get into trouble."
