EDINBURGH AND EAST OF SCOTLAND ALLIANCE REPORT AND LEADING SCORES
LLOYD SALTMAN WINS BERNARD
GALLACHER TROPHY ON COUNTBACK
FROM ALAN GREENSHIELDS
Ninety-six Edinburgh and East of Scotland Alliance competitors
headed down the East Lothian coast to Royal Musselburgh to tackle the
par 70 course on a day when the weather was vastly improved on the day
before.
A light rain was around for part of the morning and some wind
picked up as the day progressed but all in all a good day for
competitors to challenge for the Bernard Gallacher Trophy.
In terms of claiming the trophy three players mounted a challenge and in the end the winner was decided on the last six holes.
Initially in game 5 Ron Grant
(Baberton) posted the first 67 (73 less 6) but in match 8 Lloyd Saltman returned a 67, edging in front via a one under par 33 back nine against
Ron's 34 (37 less 3).
In the last game of the day Louis Gaughan of
Bathgate also posted a 67 with a back nine 33 but on the back six
countback his 22 was one more than Lloyd's 21.
As a result the trophy
of the season goes to the Saltman family but this time to Lloyd rather
than brother Elliot who claimed his name on the trophies for the first
and second events.
Top 3 scratch scores of the day were -
1st= Lloyd Saltman ( Archerfield Links) - 67
1st= Louis Gaughan (Bathgate) - 67
