ASSISTANTS CHAMPIONSHIP HEADED BY MATCHING 72s

WELSH AND O'HARA SHARE THE

HONOURS AT RANFURLY CASTLE

Alan Welsh (Cathkin Brages) and Clydeway Golf's Paul O'Hara shared the honours in the Ranfurly Castle 18-hole assistants' championship today.
They both returned two-over-par 72s to earn £450 each on a tricky course with fast greens.
Welsh should have won because he had two double bogeys, one at the short seventh and the other at the 14th.
He needed birdies at the third, 13th, 15th and 18th to offset that.
O'Hara had only two birdies, at the third and 15th, dropping shots at the first, fourth, sixth and 17th.
Home course player David Stein was third on 75 to earn £350.
