TIGHT FINISH AT FORFAR

WATT AND BURRETT SHARE SGU
UNDER-16 TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Inverallochy, the Buchan village that 20 years ago produced Steven Young, who
gained Walker Cup honours and won the Scottish boys championship three years in a row, could have another top prospect coming through in Marc Watt (pictured above, by courtesy of the SGU).
Watt and Glen Burrett (Haggs Castle), SGU picture below, tied for victory in the inaugural SGU Under-16s Junior Tour Championship over 54 holes at Forfar Golf Club over the weekend.
Under the rules of the competition, there was no play-off. Watt and Burrett  were declared joint winners with five-over-par aggregates of 212
Watt shared the 36-hole lead with Christopher Finnie (Lockerbie) after rounds of 71 and 72 and he stayed in the front rank, thanks to a final round of 69 (32-37).
Burrett was two shots off the pace after opening with scores of 72 and 73 but he produced the low score of the tournament in the final round - a two-under-par 67 (35-32) with birdies at the 14th, 15th and 16th reeling in pacemaker Watt. Finnie (74-69-71) and Cameron Black (Cardross) (73-71-70) shared third place on 214.
