Eisenhower Trophy in Japan next month
Texas University sophomore Beau Hossler, Southern Methodist University junior Bryson Dechambeau, and Virginia senior Denny McCarthy will represent the United States at the September 10-13 World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy in Japan.
Hossler, who won the Western Amateur this summer, is the highest-ranked player on the American side, at No. 12 in the R and A’s World Amateur Ranking.
McCarthy is No. 14 after a semi-final appearance in the U.S. Amateur, while Dechambeau is No. 29.
Former USGA president Jim Hyler will serve as the U.S. team captain.
The alternates for the squad are Illinois senior Brian Campbell and Texas freshman Scottie Scheffler.
The Americans won the world amateur team title for a record 14th time when it was last held in 2012 in Turkey.
Two notable absentees on the U.S. side are Georgia Tech senior Ollie Schniederjans and Alabama sophomore Robby Shelton, ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the world, respectively.
Both declined invitations, preferring instead to focus on the start of the autumn college semester.
The four-round event will be played on the Oshitate and Iriyama courses at Karuizawa 72 Golf East in Karuizawa, Japan.
