HIGHLANDER KYLE GODSMAN IS LYING SECOND, A SHOT OFF PACE

BARRY HUME LEADS INTO LAST TWO

ROUNDS OF LEVEN GOLD MEDAL

Reinstated amateur Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) leads this weekend's SGU 72-hole Order of merit event, the Leven Gold Medal, at the halfway stage.
With rounds of 72 and 68 for two-under-par 140, the Haggs Castle man, pictured right, a former Scottish amateur champion who had a short lean spell in the pro ranks, leads by one shot from Kyle Godsman, who has recently completed four years on the US college golf circuit as a student at the University of South Carolina-Aiken.
Hopeman-based member of Lossiemouth's Moray Golf Club, Godsman (pictured left) has had rounds of 72 and 69.
It's deja vu for Hume who showed good form last week in reaching the semi-finals of the Scottish amateur championship at Downfield, having won the title at his peak as an amateur in 2001. And since then he has won the Bothwell Castle Quaich Open with a six-under-par total over 36 holes.
No doubt that Barry has the experience, the ability and  temperament to stay in front over Sunday's final two rounds. He's done it all before  - unless one of his challengers puts together two sub-70 scores over the second half of the tournament.
With most of the Scottish stars otherwise engaged in the last day of the Euroepan amateur championship at The Duke's, St Andrews, Hume must be a hot favourite to score his first Order of merit tournament win in his second coming as an amateur.
The cut fell at 12-over-par 154
