GRAND FINALS AT ANDALUCIA, S E SPAIN LATER IN THE YEAR

STEPHEN AND DYLAN QUALIFY FOR

EUROPEAN JUNIOR TRIP TO SPAIN

NEWS RELEASE
Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club has hosted a qualifying round for the 22nd Andalucia Junior European Open, which is held in association with the Daily Express.
This competition is widely believed to be the toughest test for junior golf in the UK as the Grand Finals are staged in Andalucia, south-east Spain over five rounds on different courses including Finca Cortesin, which was a recent venue for the Volvo World Match-play.

The competition is open to boys and girls.  It is an individual stroke-play event played off scratch and there is no handicap limit for entry into the competition.
This year the event was open to boys born on or after January 1, 1997 and to girls born on or after January 1, 1996.

This was the first time that a qualifying competition for the tournament has been held in Aberdeenshire and, despite the rain, many excellent scores were achieved by the boys who competed on the day.  Unfortunately, no girls  entered the qualifying round at Newburgh.

The winner with an excellent score of 69 was Stephen Roger (Cruden Bay), pictured right, recent winner of the NE District Under-18 boys' stroke and match-play titles,  and the runner up with a score of 72 was Dylan Smith (Murcar Links).
Congratulations to Stephen and Dylan both of whom will take part in the Grand Finals in Andalucia, which will be a great experience.

Third place went to Calvin Cheyne (Newmachar) with a score of 75 and fourth place was taken by Keiran Nolan (Kemnay) with a score of 76.  Calvin and Keiran have been placed on the standby list for the Grand Finals and may yet get to play if other qualifiers are not able to attend the Finals for whatever reason.

Fred Mogadam, the Competition Organiser, was delighted with the course and the organisation at Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club and stated his intention to hold a qualifying round for this competition next year.
Provisionally, this has been set for Sunday, August 16, 2015 and this will be confirmed in due course.
Given the success of this year’s event at Newburgh, it is anticipated that even more young boys and girls from Aberdeenshire and the surrounding area will be encouraged to enter the competition next year and compete for the opportunity to play in the Grand Finals in Spain next year.

 Hi Colin
My son Aran Sinclair  won his Scottish qualifier for the above event on August 7 at Sandyhills. He was nominated for the competition by his
club Haggs Castle.
He now takes part in a week of golf in Spain, playing five rounds of golf at Alcaidesa links, Alcaidesa heathlands and the European tour venue Finca Cortesin. This will take place between November 29 and December 6.
