Europe lead the United States by one point after the foursomes and four-balls

DAY ONE RECAP FROM ALISTAIR TAIT
SURREY, England – Europe takes a narrow lead into the second day’s play of the Palmer Cup at Walton Heath Golf Club. The home team leads the USA 5 ½ – 4 ½ after the first two sessions.
The teams shared the spoils in the morning foursomes, splitting the session with two and half points apiece. The United States won two of the first three games in the afternoon four-balls. However, Europe took the final two contests to eke out a 3-2 advantage and take the lead after the opening day of the 18th Palmer Cup.
The Alabama pairing of Trey Mullinax and Robby Shelton took the first four-ball match by defeating Ricardo Gouveia and Erik Oja, 4 and 3. Thomas Detry and Jon Rahm evened things up for Europe with a 3-and-2 victory over Brandon Hagy and Oliver Schniederjans.
(Despite showcasing his pro-ready game in the form of a T-5 finish at a Web.com Tour event last week, Georgia Tech rising senior Ollie Schniederjans remains committed to continuing his reign as the world's top amateur).
The visitors went ahead when Rico Hoey and Jack Maguire bettered Paul Dunne and Grant Forrest, 4 and 2. The Scottish duo of Jack McDonald and James Ross evened the overall team match with a 3-and-1 triumph over Wyndham Clark and Stewart Jolly.
Europe finally edged ahead when Pep Angles and Louis Tomlinson downed Bryson Dechambeau and Anthony Maccaglia, 1-up.
Friday  sees 10 singles matches, with another 10 on Saturday. The USA leads the series 9-7-1.
