JOINT FOURTH WITH A 64

Former US college circuit player William Harrold from Norfolk will take a one-shot lead over a bunched leaderboard into the final round of the Belgian Challenge Open at Cleydael Golf and Country Club.
Harrold leads on 13 under par courtesy of his third round of 67, with Florian Fritsch and Rodolfo Cazaubon one shot adrift and a further six players just two shots off the lead.
Harrold, twice a winner of £10,000 jackpot prizes on the satellite EuroPro Tour this year, knows it will be a tough final day.
“I will just try to stay patient. There aren’t that many drives out there, so you have to put the ball in the right place,” said Harrold. “It sounds easy to do that, but you have to really find the right spots, and if you manage to do that you can really reward yourself.”
The Norfolk native might be facing the biggest challenge of his career on Sunday in northern Belgium, but his two EuroPro Tour wins will give him plenty of confidence.
“I’m looking for more of the same again, to take it one shot at a time and stay focused,” said Harrold, who went out in 32.
“On this golf course it is easy to get frustrated, because on every hole you feel like you can get a birdie. But I think I am quite humble, so I just take every round and shot as it comes.”
Fritsch, meanwhile, continued his consistent form this week with his third round in the 60s, a 69 meaning he will join Harrold in the final group out on Sunday.
However, the German, who played amateur golf alongside US Open Champion Martin Kaymer, feels there is plenty of room for improvement in his game.
“I struggled a lot with my wedges, I just couldn’t figure out the wind,” said Fritsch, who is looking for his maiden Challenge Tour win in Belgium.
“Sometimes I thought I had hit a good shot and it ended up being ten metres away, either short or long. It was a bit annoying and in addition I had two or three three-putts, so my putter was not as good. But my long game was better than yesterday, and the day before.”
Mexican Cazaubon has also been in contention throughout the week, but two bogeys in his last three holes mean he will play in the penultimate group on Sunday.
However, the North Texas University graduate is relieved to still have a chance going into the final round.
“I felt I played pretty well,” said the 24 year old. “I had to make a few up and downs, made a few three-putts, but I felt comfortable. I thought I was going to feel more nervous, but I was actually quite relaxed. The good thing is that I am still in the mix and we still have 18 holes left.”
Round of the day belonged to Edinburgh’s Paul McKechnie, pictured, who shot up the leaderboard into a tie for fourth courtesy of his round of 64.
Alongside Braid Hills man McKechnie, two shots back from the leaders, is a group which includes first round leader Dave Coupland, France’s Joël Stalter and Friday’s overnight leader Jason Palmer, setting the stage for a thrilling finish at Cleydael Golf and Country Club.
