ALEX (17) CHALKS UP IMPRESSIVE WIN

IN KIRKCUDBRIGHTSHIRE FINAL

Seventeen-year-old Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas) is the new Kirkcudbrightshire match-play champion. He beat Gary King (Southerness) by 7 and 6 in the final at Southerness.
Both players had won through to the final by beating some of the best players in the Stewartry.  Conditions were excellent with just a slight breeze and the course in top condition. Alex was soon four up after only four holes.
He increased his advantage by winning the sixth, seventh and ninth - seven up at the turn.
The game was conceded by Gary on the 12th green.
