LAST MEN OUT AT BUCHANAN CASTLE ARE FIRST AT END OF DAY

BROOKES AND REILLY SWOOP TO 

CONQUER IN OVER-45s' BETTER-BALL

The East-West partnership of Paul Brookes (Pitreavie) and Lochwinnoch's Gerry Reilly were the last players in the field to tee off ... but they were at the head of it by the end of the PGA in Scotland's better-ball, 18-hole competition for pros aged 45 and over at Buchanan Castle Golf Club today.

Brookes and Reilly dovetailed brilliantly over a par-70 course of 6,131yd to shoot a seven-under 63 and collect the £800 first prize.

They demoted the three pairs sitting in the clubhouse with 64s to their name - Kenneth Hutton (Downfield) and Andrew Crerar (Panmure), Ronan Rafferty (Monte Rei) and Brian Marchbank (unattached), ad Ian Taylor (Drumpellier) and Kenny Walker (Castle Park). The runners-up pairs received £450 for each couple.
