QUAICH TOURNAMENT REVIVED AS 

ABERDEEEN CITY CHAMPIONSHIP

The popular Quaich amateur golf tournament at Hazlehead - which has not been staged for three or four years, is being revived by Golf Aberdeen, part of Sport Aberdeen, which is launching a new programme of golf events over the city's municipal courses..
The Quaich tournament will be rebranded as the Aberdeen City Championship and it will be played over 36 holes, one round over both Hazelehad courses, on Saturday-Sunday, August 8 and 9.
It will be open to female amateurs, as well as men, as long as they have an official handicap from a club.
David Law, a former Hazlehead member who won the Quaich in 2007 and is now a tour professional, said:
"Having grown up playing at Hazlehead I'm delighted that Golf Aberdeen is introducing this prestigious title on such a great course. To become the Aberdeen City Champion would be an honour for any golfer."
Traditionally, the Quaich was a three-day tournament with two rounds of stroke-play on the Friday from which players qualified to play in either the scratch or handicap match-play over the Saturday and Sunday. 

Also included in Golf Aberdeen's new calendar of golf events are three Texas Scrambles at municipal courses across the city:

·       July 6 – Hazlehead

·       August 31 – Balnagask

·       September 21 – Kings Links

There will also be a "walk-on" Stableford competition Tuesday, July 8 at Kings Links, giving golfers the opportunity to pitch up and play in this special event to help celebrate the Scottish Open coming to Aberdeen. 

These events are open to any amateur golfer - male or female - who is a member of a golf club with a CONGU handicap
