GREIG BEATS DEFENDING CHAMPION

EDMOND IN 19-HOLE THRILLER

Bon Accord's Matty Greig dethroned his clubmate and good friend, Barrie Edmond, as the title-holder in the second round of the Aberdeen Links golf championship match-play stages at the Kings Links this evening.
Greig, beaten in last year's final by Edmond (pictured above) who had been champion in three of the past four years, had a narrow lead until Edmond won the 16th to square the match.
Greig was not to be denied. He won at the 19th to claim a place in Friday's quarter-finals. Matty had played his golfing pal in each of the last three championships. 
This was the first time he has tasted success.
Leading qualifier Barry Reid (Caledonian), the 2011 champion, is also through to the round of the last eight. He beat the 2010 title-winner, George Paterson (Northern) by 5 and 4.
