Newmachar +2 amateur John Duff chalked up his fourth win of the North-east Golfers' Alliance season with a brilliant score of eight-under-par 61 at Insch Golf Club today.
At 5,371yd, Insch is the shortest course on the circuit but that does not detract from Duff's bogey-free halves of 30 (five under par) and 31 (three under), compiled with birdies at the second, third, fourth, sixth, eighth, 10th,15th and 16th.
"It equals my lowest ever round but was an 11-under-par 61 for a course record over the Newmachar Swailend course," said Duff who hit every green in regulation and putted well. He might even have hit the magic figure of 59 had not a few birdie putts lipped out.
"I was very pleased with how I played as I have been focusing on how
best to manage my game, depending on the condtions, so it is quite satisfying when it all comes together like this."
John's earlier victories on the 2013-2014 schedule are as follows:

September 11 - Joint winner at Kemnay.
November 20 - Outright winner at Montrose
January 8 - Outright winner at Inverallochy

Duff, who had not played the Insch course since he was a junior, earned a £100 voucher for heading a field of 77 players by three strokes From another amateur, Scotland international Adam Dunton, who plays off +3 at McDonald Ellon. Dunton had halves of 33-31 for his 64.
The leading professional was Colin Nelson, who plays out of the MacKenzie Shop at Hazlehead. He shot a 65 with halves of 33-32, oneahead of the second-placed pro Keil Beveridge (Kippie Lodge) who had inward half of 31.
