EX-RANGER IAN REDFORD, ONLY 53, FOUND DEAD IN AYRSHIRE WOODS

Scottish sport has been shocked by the sudden  death of former Rangers and Dundee United star footballer Ian Redford who had also played in senior golf tournaments since his 50th birthday.
Police said Mr Redford, who was just 53 and had a glittering pro football career with Dundee, Ipswich, St Johnstone and Raith Rovers, was found in a wooded area in Irvine, North Ayrshire, on Friday.
It is understood there are no suspicious circumstances.
A scratch golfer Redford was hoping to make the grade as tournament professional in the senior ranks but this second career in sport never got off the ground.
Redford's son, also Ian, now 21, became a pro golfer two years ago but he too has enjoyed no success.
