DORNOCH MAN OFF TO SOUTH AMERICA NEXT MONTH
JIMMY GUNN EARNS $4,178 FOR JOINT
FOURTH PLACE IN ARIZONA
Dornoch exile Jimmy Gunn, pictured above, earned $4,178 for a joint fourth place finish in probably his last All-American Gateway Tour appearance before he sets off for South America to tee off his first Web.com Tour campaign.
The 33-year-old six-footer, now based at Scottsdale, Arizona, shot rounds of 66, 71 and 69 for a 10-under-par total of 206 in the 54-hole event at Papago Golf Club, Arizona.
So competitive is the Gateway Tour that the field of 106 had to score at least two under par for the first 36 holes to qualify for the final 18 holes.
Gunn, who had an eagle 3 at the 542yd ninth hole in his first round, started his last round with a bogey 6 but covered the last nine holes in four-under par with birdies at the 10th, 11th, 12th and 16th to finish eight shots behind the winner by five, American Jesse Mueller who had scores of 68, 69 and 61 for 11-under 198 to earn $15,000.
Gunn will be competing in events with prizefunds of $750,000 when the Webcom.Tour schedule takes him to Bogota, Colombia next month, followed by Santiago, Chile, then Sao Paulo, Brazil and Panama City.
