John Gallagher, the Scottish amateur champion at Prestwick in 2007, did best of the five Scots in action in the first round of the 36-hole Alps Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 eliminator at La Cala Resort near  Malaga on Spain's Costa del Sol today
The cack-handed Gallagher, who is attached to Edinburgh's Duddingston Golf Club, shot a three-under-par 69 over the America Course to be joint third, only one shot behind the leaders.
It was a vintage Gallagher, pictured, round with an eagle, at the long sixth, five birdies (first, second, third, ninth and 14th) and four bogeys in halves of 32-37.
Also at this venue, David Broadfoot (Dumfries and County) is joint 35th after a 75 and Scotscraig amateur Jordan McColl is sharing 52nd place on 77. McColl, three under par after birdies at the first, second and fifth was eight over par for the remainder of the holes. His lowlights were a quadruple bogey 8 at the 13th and a double bogey 6 at the 17th in an inward 41.
At the Asia Course, Lundin amateur James White is sharing eighth place with a par-matching 72 in which he had a birdie at the long ninth, a bogey at the sixth  and 16 pars in halves of 36.
Neil Henderson (Renaissance Club) had a triple bogey 7 at6 the fourth and a double bogey 6 at the 14th in his 78 (40-38) which left him in joint 37th place.
