James White's move into the professional ranks cannot be far away now as he ended the first day of the Alps Tour Final Qualifying in joint fourth place at La Cala Resort on Spain's Costa del Sol.
The Scotland amateur international and Lundin GC member with  +3 of a a handicap said recently that if he won himself a place on the Alps Tour he would turn pro without further delay.
But he was not sure how he would cope with the qualifying school pressure.
Well, James, the son of a former leading Tartan Tour pro, Jim White, need not have worried. He played well to sail through the Stage 1 and now he is off and running in good style in the Stage 2 54-holer.
The leading 65 and ties from a field of 150 after three rounds in Spain will gain playing rights on the circuit which can be a stepping stone to the Challenge Tour.
White shot a four-under-par 68 to be three shots behind the leader by two, Irishman Brian Casey.
John Henry (Clydebank and Dist) is joint eighth after a 69.
John Gallagher (Duddingston) and Ellon's Ross Cameron (Saltire Energy) are sharing 26th place on 71.
Scott Crichton (Aberdour) had a 73 to be joint 56th and only just within the qualifying zone.
Three Scots must improve over the next two rounds to make the cut.
Ross Kellett from Motherwell did not do himself justice with a 74 for a share of 66th place.
Neil Henderson (Renaissance Club) is  joint 84th with a 75 and David Broadfoot (Dumfries and County) has the most ground to make up after a 77, which leaves him outside the top 100 in a field of 144.
