ADAM SCOTT FAVOURITE TO WIN THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN THIS WEEK

Just as he’s done for the last three Wednesdays, Adam Scott (pictured) spent time chatting with Australian media ahead of this week’s PGA Tour of Australasia season-ending tournament, the Emirates Australian Open.
Since arriving in Australia in late October the US Masters Champion has added the Australian PGA, Masters and World Cup titles to his resume and this week will attempt to claim what only one person has managed to achieve before him – the Australian golf Triple Crown.
That person was Robert Allenby who, in 2005, overcame American Bubba Watson to achieve the rare feat, and Scott says he’s got nothing but respect for the Victorian.
“I'll leave the sledging to the cricketers,” Scott laughed today.
“I caught up with Rob last night at the function and asked for some advice on how to go about it, but he didn't offer any up. I'm left to my own devices this week.”
“What Robert was able to do was remarkable. Greg Chalmers had a shot at it a couple of years ago. I'll be giving it my best and hopefully you can ask me Sunday night and I can tell you where I reckon it ranks.”
Despite feeling slightly fatigued Scott said his four-week back-to-back schedule has been a valuable experience delivering much more beyond the on-course results.
“Winning the PGA and the Australian Masters was the first time ever in my career I'd won back to back weeks, so I sat back after that and learned a lot.”
“I'm constantly learning and trying to figure out how to handle different and new situations that you face playing this game all the time. But it's something I'll learn.
Scott’s World Ranking also remains a hot topic on site at Royal Sydney.
Another win this week would take Scott as close to the World’s top ranking as he’s ever been however he admits that despite his outstanding month there’s still a long way to go to reach the pinnacle, and a formidable adversary in Tiger Woods.
“I'm not going to stop dreaming of it just because Tiger Woods holds the number one spot,” said Scott.
“But we all know how difficult it is to surpass him. Only a few people have done it in the last 15 years and I've got my work cut out for me the whole of next year in trying to do that.”
But for now Scott’s focus is firmly on claiming his second Emirates Australian Open title.
And no one at Royal Sydney is willing to bet against him doing just that.
