KELLY'S SUNDAY BEST WINS HIM KERR CLASSIC AT DUMFRIES
Cawder’s Chris Kelly, pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency, put together an
inward half of
five-under-par 29 – even with a bogey at the last – which helped him to win the top prize of £2,323 by
four strokes in the Kerr Investment Classic 36-hole pro-am at
Dumfries and
Galloway Golf Club over the weekend.
Kelly
followed up his Saturday par
round of 70 with a brilliant seven-under-par round of 63 -
easily the best of the day - in a rising wind and his clubhouse target
of
133 stood
unchallenged by the end of the day.
Kelly
started well with a birdie at the first and after bogeying the second
he got in the red figures again with an eagle 3 at the long fifth.
Then he went quiet for a few holes
before, after turning in two-under 34, bursting into life
again with birdies at the 10th, 11th, 13th,
14th,
15th and 16th before that closing bogey
which never
looked like being costly as the overnight leaders could not
get near him.
Scottish champion Greig Hutcheon had
a solid 70 for 137 to
finish runner-up to add £1,595 to his top of the money table account
plus Order of
Merit points to boot.
Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills) (70-68)
and David Orr (Mearns
Castle) (67-71) tied for third place
on 138. They earned £1,064 each.
The Kerr Investments No 1 team of Jim
Kerr (handicap 13),
Raymond Kerr (13) and Carol Armitt (19) won the two-day pro-am
net event with a
total of 31 under par 249. Stephen Gray (Hayston) was their
pro on Day 1 while
David Orr was their pro for the second round.
