Cults Academy, represented by Adam Fisher, Ryan McKinnon and Ben Henderson, became only the second school to record back-to-back victories in the Paul Lawrie Foundation Schools’ Team Challenge Scratch Trophy at a sun-drenched Peterculter Golf Club on Monday.

Only Ellon Academy (in 2005 and 2006) could boast that achievement previously.

Team captain Adam Fisher led the way with a three-under-par 68.  Fisher, celebrating his inclusion in the Scottish schoolboys team to face England next month, had four birdies – at the first, third, fourteenth and seventeenth – and a solitary bogey at the 9^th.  Team-mates Ben Henderson and Ryan McKinnon weighed in with 75 and 79 respectively for a team total of 222 and a winning margin of five strokes.  

Runners-up for a second successive year were Alford Academy’s Ray Gordon (72), Kiran Nolan (75) and Gavin Elrick (80).

Robert Gordon’s College, winners in 2011 and represented this year by Michael Lawrie (77), Findlay McPherson (79) and Dylan Smith (80),finished third on 236.

Hazlehead Academy claimed the Handicap Trophy with a net score of 214. Their team players and individual scores were: Craig Leith (9) 68, Connor Brown (14) 68 and Jasmine Mackintosh (9) 78.  Speyside High School made their long journey worthwhile when they claimed the runners-up place on a card countback from Westhill Academy, after both teams had tied on 216.
