LEE WESTWOOD WON'T PLAY AGAIN BEFORE OPEN AT MUIRFIELD

NEWS RELEASE
Two weeks prior to the Alstom Open de France, Lee Westwood has just announced his withdrawal. The 40-year-old Englishman, currently ranked 12th in the world, was one of the big names highlighting the field of the tournament's 97th edition
It is with much regret that I have decided to withdraw from this year's Alstom Open de France. A long run of events has left me fatigued and with The Open so close I have decided to get myself into the best possible condition”, said Westwood, who plays on both sides of the Atlantic this season.

“The Alstom Open de France has always been one of my favourite tournaments and I love both Paris and Versailles, so this decision was not taken lightly and I look forward to returning in the future. I would like to wish everybody connected all the very best for a successful and memorable week. I am sure it will be,” he kindly added.
Already not in the field of this week's Irish Open, Westwood will also miss the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, scheduled the week after the Alstom Open de France. The Englishman will return to competitive play at Muirfield, where the 142nd Open Championship will take place from July 18 to 21.
