ARNOTT AND McCREADIE SHARE CAWDER WIN WITH SIX-UNDER 64s
Robert Arnott (Bishopbriggs Golf Range) and Buchanan Castle's Jason McCreadie tied for victory with six-under-par 64s in today's Cawder Golf Club pro-am.
They each earned £1,114.
On a day of rare occurrences, Arnott had back-to-back eagle 3s - at the 11th and 12th - and Greig Hutcheon (Banchory), last year's Tartan Tour supremo, had a pair of 8s over a span of three holes.
Arnott's double eagle feat enabled him to cover his last 10 holes in seven under par.
But he could not hold McCreadie, a man renowned for low numbers. He also had a pair of eagles - at the seventh and 12th - and had enough birdies as well to allow him to cancel out back to back bogeys at the 14th and 15th.
Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills) had a bogey-free 65 to collect £753 for third place while Thailand-based Kenny Walker, home for his summer sojourn on the Tartan Tour, finished fourth, also with a bogey-free card of 66. He earned £564.
Greig Hutcheon finished outside the prize money with a 77 in what can only be described as a round of two halves. He took 43 (eight over par) blows to the turn with his triple bogey 8 at the long seventh and a quadruple bogey 8 at the par-4 ninth.
But he came whistling home in one-under 34 with eight straight pars and a birdie at the 18th. You can't keep a good man down!
Speaking of rare occurences, when was the last time a pro who had a No Return led the winning team in the pro-am?
James McGhee (unattached) did not have an individual score but he piloted the Trane UK Ltd amateur trio of KennyJohnston, Jim Scullion and Ricky Byrne to victory in the team event with a 16-under-par total of 124.
