INVERNESS HOLD ON TO WIN SENIOR NORTHERN COUNTIES CUP

WINNING LINE-UP - L to R - Laurie Chancellor, David Rae, Jim Elliott and Fraser Urquhart.

Inverness beat Duff House Royal by one hole in this morning's final of the Senior Northern Counties Cup tournament at Nairn Dunbar Golf Club. Inverness, represented by Laurie Chancellor, David Rae, Fraser Urquhart and Jim Elliott, won by an overall one hole in the double foursomes format.
Chancellor and Rae finished three holes up on the Banff club's first pairing, Alan Kennedy and Duncan Clark, but Duff House Royal's second string of Mike Jenkins and Alan Cruickshank almost forced the final into extra holes.
Jenkins and Cruickshank finished two holes up on Urquhart and Elliott, just one hole short of making up the overall deficit.
Inverness had got off to a great start and were five up overall, continuing to hold on to that lead until the turn.
Duff House Royal then started a fight back. Kennedy and Clark came back from five down to three down and Jenkins and Cruickshank did even better, rallyng from three down to two up.
