Fife won the GolfKings Scottish men's area team golf championship by beating Lothians 3 1/2-1 1/2 in the weather-delayed final at Crail Golf Society's Craighead links tonight (Sunday).
It was host Fife's second win in the championship in two years. Their 2011 victory was scored at Prestwick where they beat North-east in the final.
Foursomes pair Ally Hain and Jordan McColl put the first point in the final on the board by beating Ally Dick and Graham Robertson 4 and 3.
But Neil Henderson levelled it at 1-1 by beating Fife's Ewan Scott (St Andrews) by 4 and 3, having b been two up after 12.
Lundin's James White then put Fife into a 2-1 lead with a 2 and 1 win over Anthony Blaney (Liberton) who came back from three down after 12 to be only one down on the 17th tee.
Scott Stewart-Cation gained the clinching third point for Fife by beating Benn McLeod 3 and 2, having been four up at the turn and five up after 12. McLeod rallied to win the 13th and 15th but lost the 16th
Aberdour's Scott Crichton, with the help of a hole in one at the 13th, had a square match against Callum Hill (Tantallon).
Fife and Lothians, area champions a record 13 times since the tournament was inaugurated in 1977, earned the top seeding in Saturday's stroke-play qualifying which was also hit by bad weather. Torrential rain forced the SGU organisers to restrict the stroke-play programme to just one round.
Then morning fog delayed the start of Sunday's final until 12.30.
Fife beat Glasgow 4-2 while Lothians overpowered Stirlingshire 4-3 in the semi-finals.
