EIGHT SCOTS HAVE THEIR SENIOR MOMENT

Germany-based Stephen Craig spearheaded eight Scots who beat the cut to earn a place in the final day of the Senior PGA professional championship at Northamptonshire County Golf Club.

Craig shot 73-69 for two-over-par 142 and he goes into the final 18 holes in joint sixth place behind joint leaders Grant Wraith (Woodcote Park) (72-68) and John Lower (Wollaton Park) (69-71) on level par 140.

The other Scots to qualify with totals of 149 and better were Russell Eeir (71-73) and Martin Gray (74-70), joint 12th on 141; Murray White (Penfold Park) (73-72), joint 22nd on 145; Fraser Mann (Musselburgh) (72-74) and Alastair Webster (Edzell) (74-72), joint 25th on 146; Iain Parker (Royal North Devon) (78-70), joint 34th on 148 and Albert Mackenzie (Saunton) who made it on the limit mark of 149 with scores of 78-71

Deeside's Peter Smith failed by one shot with a pair of 75s for 150 - after only needing to par the last three holes for a 149 total.

Instead he bogeyed the 16th and double-bogeyed the 17th. A birdie at the last was too little too late to save him.
