SENIORS SCOTS MEN STRUGGLE IN EUROPEAN MATCH-PLAY
Scotland peaked too early in the European senior men's amateur team golf championship at Estoril GC near Lisbon, Portugal. They were the leading qualifiers after two rounds of stroke-play but were beaten 3-2 by eighth seeds Sweden in their first championship flight tie. Lindsey Blair and Gordib MacDonald won the foursomes tie by one hole and John Fraser won at the 21st but Ian Brotherston lost at the 23rd, Daiv Gardner lost at the 20th and Fraser McCluskey went down by 2 and 1. Today (Friday), the Scots lost their chance to finish as high as fifth when they were beaten 4-1 by Ireland. Blair and MacDonald lost by 2 and 1 to Maurice Kelly and Michael Coote. Fraser halved with Adrian Morrow. Brotherson lost by 6 and 5 to Arthur Pierse. Gardner lost by 4 andf 3 to John Mitchell McCluskey halved with Garth McGimpsey.
