BRIAN BARNES MAKES COMEBACK IN BRITISH PAR-3 CHAMPIONSHIP

FROM THE PGA E-BULLETIN
Six-time Ryder Cup player and nine-time European Tour winner Brian Barnes will compete in his first professional tournament for 10 years when he tees up in next month’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.http://www.britishpar3.com
The two-time British Senior Open winner, who was one of the most colourful, popular and recognisable golfers of the 1970s and 80s, will line up with a host of golf stars both past and present at Warwickshire’s Nailcote Hall from August 7.
The tournament, which will see the winner of the 36-hole test collect £15,000 from a £38,000 war chest, will also feature Ryder Cup winning captain’s Tony Jacklin and Ian Woosnam and Solheim Cup winning skipper Alison Nicholas.
Barnes, a team mate of Jacklin’s, has been out of the game due to suffering with rheumatoid arthritis in his wrists since the 2000 Hawaii Open.
With the condition now in remission, Barnes has been able to start playing golf in recent months and is now set to make a hugely popular return to professional tournament golf.
Amongst the many highlights of his career was the 1975 Ryder Cup, when he claimed the prize scalp of the great Jack Nicklaus – twice in one day.
Throughout his career, Barnes was mentored by his friend and father in law, the late, great former Open Champion Max Faulkner.
The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship is again hosted by 1969 Open Champion, 1970 US Open Champion Jacklin CBE.
Other players at the tournament include US Senior Open-winner Larry Laoretti, Senior Tour star Gary Wolstenholme, former Ryder Cup player and leading Senior Tour ace Tommy Horton and current European Tour stars Marc Warren, Graeme Storm and Scott Jamieson.
The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship runs from August 7-10. For ticket information, visit
