GRAHAM FOX, KENNY HUTTON SET THE PACE AT GLENEAGLES

Graham Fox, father of a 10-month old son, and Kenny Hutton, the second oldest player in the field, are the contrasting leaders at the halfway stage of the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship over the King's Course.
Fox admitted that he was staying away from home in East Kilbride this week for two reasons – to earn enough money to buy nappies, and to get some decent sleep.
And 48-year-old Hutton, 18 years the professional at Downfield in Dundee ("I'm glad Robert Arnott's playing – he's four months older!"), dragged wearying legs over a total of 32 holes today, with only a 20-minute break between rounds, as the championship got back onto an even keel after Monday's deluge brought play to a premature end.
Hutton's splendid seven-under aggregate of 135 (68-67) leaves him tied with Fox, and a shot ahead of Banchory's Greig Hutcheon, who carded two 68's, and last year's champion, Alan Lockhart, with former European Rookie of the Year, Scott Henderson, a further shot behind.
Fox, who had identical scores to Hutton's, missed a tiddler on the 13th green but made amends down the par-5 last, hitting a rescue club to 20 feet and holing for an eagle.
Hutcheon, easily the most battle-hardened of the 75-man field, won the title 13 years ago, but is cautious about his chances of regaining the trophy.
"I want to win, but I don't want to win it too much by getting ahead of myself."
Lockhart was always in a challenging position but seemed to have slipped off the pace after three putts at the 17th.  But a drive and a 3-wood to 15 feet at the last was followed by an eagle putt that restored the gloss to a round of 69.
Hutton recalled one of the first TV programmes he'd watched, the Double Diamond over the King's Course. "It's just one of the great courses, and to win the Scottish PGA championship here would be special."
The Dundee pro's scores were cemented by 'hitting lots of green and some nice iron play'.
Some 'encouragement' from a PGA official to speed up play affected Hutcheon at the seventh, and this resulted in a three-putt 'because I rushed at it – my own fault.'
The rest of his game was  generally solid, three bogeys outweighed by six birdies, and, as so often in this championship, he is the man to beat.
The halfway cut fell at five-over-par 147 with players of the calibre of former champion Mark Loftus (75-75 for 150), Mark Kerr (73-77 for 150) and Graeme Brown (Montrose Links) (76-80 for 156) on the wrong side of the diving line.
