ENGLAND SQUAD FOR CHIBERTA GRAND PRIX AND BIARRITZ CUP

NEWS RELEASE FROM ENGLAND GOLF
Improvement on past performances is always a goal in golf and Josh Loughrey (Wrag Barn, Wiltshire) will be aiming to do just that after being named in a six-strong squad to represent England Golf in the Chiberta Grand Prix in Biarritz later this week (July 5 to 8).
The group will also compete in the Biarritz Cup next week (July 11 to 13).
Loughrey finished equal fourth in the Grand Prix and tied sixth in the Biarritz Cup a year ago so will be eager to move up the leaderboard this time and is one of four players in the group from the south west.
The other members heading for France are, Craig Adams (Farrington, Somerset), Ryan Evans (Wellingborough, Northamptonshire), Tom Harris (Castletown, Isle of Man), Jimmy Mullen (Royal North Devon, Devon), and Jordan Smith (Bowood G and CC, Wiltshire).
Loughrey, 21, a member of the England ‘A’ squad, won the Scrutton Jug for the lowest aggregate from the Brabazon and Berkshire Trophies last year and was a member of the Wiltshire team that won the English County Championship for the first time.
It followed a successful season in which he finished tied third in the Darwin Salver, fourth in the Duncan Putter, and fifth in the Berkshire Trophy. Earlier this year, he spent four months in Australia playing for the Waverley club in their annual Pennant Series.
Adams, 33, will be making his first overseas trip with England Golf but is a solid performer in the south west. He recently finished joint third in the South West Qualifier at Cumberwell Park and tied 11th in last year’s Brabazon Trophy at Burnham and Berrow.
Evans, 25, is another debutant for England Golf.
TOP TEN FINISHES
Seventh in the South of England Open Amateur last year at Walton Heath, he finished eighth in this year’s Berkhamsted Trophy and equal ninth in the recent France Open Amateur at Chantilly.
Harris, 18, also played at Chiberta last year, finishing joint 15th. Another member of ‘A’ Squad, he was the Isle of Man boy champion in 2010 and finished joint third in the Junior County Champions tournament at Woodhall Spa. Last year he won the Fairhaven Trophy and booked a place in the upcoming Brabazon Trophy by finishing fourth in the Southern Qualifier at Rochester & Cobham.
Mullen, 18, is also tasting his first overseas trip with England Golf. Placed sixth in the Junior County Champions tournament at Woodhall Spa last year, he finished equal seventh in the West of England Stroke Play and South of England Boys Championships.
He reached the first round of the Australian Amateur in the winter and has since finished tied third in the Lagonda Trophy at Gog Magog and equal eighth in the South West Qualifying.
CHAMPION AT COLLEGE
Smith, 19, another member of the England ‘A’ Squad,  was the Intercollegiate Tour Players champion for two years during his time at Filton College in Bristol and was an England Schools international. Also a member of the County Championship-winning Wiltshire team at Ganton last year, he joined Loughrey in Australia earlier this year as part of the Waverley team in the Pennant Series.
He also represented England Golf in the Costa Ballena Tournament in Spain and recently finished joint eighth in the South West Qualifying
The Chiberta Grand Prix is medal stroke play over 72 holes with a halfway cut. There is also a team event over the first two days, the best two of the three cards to count.
