LOTHIAN LADS MAKE IT THREE WINS IN A ROW IN DBS SCOTTISH BOYS AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The Lothians maintained their iron grip on the Dunfermline Building Society Scottish Boys Area Team Championship after an historic third win in-a-row at Cowglen Golf Club today.
Becoming the first-ever team to win the event three times on the spin, the Lothians achieved an 11th success overall as they emulated their triumphs at Hayston in 2011 and Peebles in 2010.
SGU National Boys Squad player Anthony Blaney (Liberton) was again in the winning quartet from the east, along with fellow squad member Calum Hill (Tantallon).
The pair were joined by The Renaissance’s Alexander Wilson, who shared top spot with Blaney in the opening Scottish Hydro Junior Tour Event 1 at Gullane in April, and Murray Naysmith (Dalmahoy), who achieved a double celebration on his 15th birthday today.
The Lothians, who have now won eight of the last 13 championships overall, were a model of consistency as the 16 Area Associations of the Scottish Golf Union battled it out over a well-presented course in Glasgow.
Thanks to a fine foursomes display this morning (138), they held a one-shot lunchtime lead over Dumbartonshire before easing to a five-stroke success overall after the singles.
Hill posted a fine three-under-par 67 this afternoon, with Naysmith (70) and Wilson (71) the other counting scores of the quartet for a 208 singles total and final total of 346.
In the end, the Lothians finished five ahead of Glasgow, who carded 205 for the singles, but were undone by a foursomes total of 146.
Alan Waugh, a Cowglen member, fired a 66 in the singles, with Jamie Savage (Cawder) a 69 and George Burns (Williamwood) a 70.
Dumbartonshire finished third overall on 353 after their challenge ended in the singles.
On a day when the rain came down in the late morning and late afternoon, there was a bright end for Bradley Neil of Perth & Kinross.
Neil’s team finished eighth, but the Blairgowrie member continued his fine season by claiming the Niagara Cup for the best individual singles score after a five-under-par 65.
