I'M ON A LEARNING CURVE THIS YEAR, SAYS DAVID LAW

Young Aberdonian  David Law is hoping to make a big impression on the European Challenge Tour as he makes his second appearance of the season at the Telenet Trophy this week.

The 21-year-old joins the strongest field of the regular Challenge Tour season at Ravenstein Royal Golf Club of Belgium, in Tervuren just outside Brussels, as they battle it out for the €160,000 prize fundIt is only Law’s fourth appearance on the European circuit after appearing at the KLM Open last year and the Scottish Open in 2010 on The European Tour, both as an amateur, before making his Challenge Tour debut as a professional at the ALLIANZ Open Côtes d’Armor Bretagne two weeks ago
The former Scottish boys' and men’s amateur champion (twice) is not fazed, however, by the change in lifestyle since turning pro last October and is enjoying the experience of playing amongst some of Europe’s top up-and-coming professionals.
“I played my first Challenge Tour event in Brittany and I was 16^th going into the last day and finished 37^th but it’s all experience for me this year and if I can perform well it’s an added bonus,” said the Aberdeen man, who is mentored by Paul Lawrie.
“I’m really enjoying it now. I played on a satellite tour this year and now I’m getting used to the Challenge Tour, so it’s all been good so far.
“I travelled a little bit as an amateur but not in the same way. It was more driving around whereas now it’s airports and hotels. But it’s really nice to see new places and play against these guys, so hopefully I can do well.”
Having already won in Morocco on the satellite EPD Tour this year, Law is high in confidence and is determined to not only enjoy himself on the Challenge Tour, but also to make the most of the opportunities he gets.
“It’s definitely exciting,” said Law. “There are a lot of guys I see around that I know from the amateur game and they’re playing out here and it’s just been fun. But as much as I'm enjoying it I'm trying to stay focussed too and trying to put in as good a performance as I can.
“I just want to do my best and hopefully give myself some chances to get back on tour every week and go from there.”
Law is one of ten Scottish players in the field this week with Callum Macaulay (16^th) and Chris Doak (18^th) hoping to consolidate their places in the top 20 of the Challenge Tour Rankings, while Raymond Russell (22^nd) and Jamie McLeary (24^th) will be looking for a positive result to lift them into the reckoning for a European Tour card.
