GREGORY NAMED AS COACH TO THE US PALMER CUP TEAM

FROM THE GOLFWEEK WEBSITE
Southern Methodist University (SMU) coach Josh Gregory, who led Augusta State to back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2010-11, has been named the U.S. coach for the 2012 Palmer Cup match.
The annual Ryder Cup-style competition, featuring student golfers from both sides of the Atlantic, will be held June 28-30 at Royal County Down in Newcastle, Northern Ireland.
Gregory is in his first season at SMU after leading Augusta State to 18 tournament titles during his tenure. The Jaguars’ back-to-back NCAA titles were the first for a school since Houston in 1984-85.
Georgia Tech assistant Christian Newton, recipient of the 2011 Jan Strickland Award as the national assistant coach of the year, will serve as Gregory’s assistant on the Palmer Cup team.
The U.S. leads the Palmer Cup series 8-6-1 and has won two straight. The team will be finalised later this spring.
