DRUMMOND AND McARTHUR TOP 20 FINISH - BUT AT A COST

One-time PGA champion Scott Drummond and Glasgow's Andrew McArthur finished in the top 20 of the Spanish Hi5 Pro Tour's Altorreal Open in Murcia - but almost certainly did not cover their expenses for the week.
Anglo-Scot Drummond, originally from Fife, earned 318 Euros for a joint 13th finish with scores of 70, 71 and 73 for a total of two-under-par 214. He had a chance of a top 10 finish and a bigger payslip after birdieng the 11th to get back to one over par for the day but could not get another birdie putt to drop and parred the last seven holes.
McArthur, past Scottish amateur champion from Windyhill, earned 170 Euros for a joint 16th place finish with a one-under total of 215, made up of rounds of 74, 69 and 72. Three birdies on the last day were cancelled out by three bogeys, two of them within his last five holes.
Mark Rae (Alyth) and Murrayfield's Mark Kerr were out of pocket for the week because they finished out of the money. Rae had rounds of 76, 74 and 78 for joint 39th place on 12-over-par 228 while Kerr finished in joint 41st place on 13-over 229 with very disappointing scores of 79, 74 and 76.
James Ruth, 26-year-old from Plymouth led from pillar to post to win the 4,552 Euros top prize by three shots with scores of 64, 68 and 72 for 204.
Like the majority of satellite circuits, unless you are a winner or finish in the top three, a player is hard pushed to cover his costs.
