HUGH HUNTER'S CLACKMANNAN COUNTY NEWS

GOLFING SUCCESS FOR BOB…..EVEN MORE FOR LAWRENCE!
While golfing success eluded the Clackmannan county team recently in the Provan Salver, the disappointment was more than made up by the top County Senior and Junior golfers.
First up was Tulliallan’s Bob Stewart who took the South of Scotland Seniors title at Powfoot at the weekend, thus continuing his run of good scores in Midland Alliance events.
His two round aggregate of 145 (74, 71) led a trio of players two shots back… while his scores in each round were bettered by others, it was only Bob that showed the consistency in both rounds, and the result is a clear indication that Bob intends to press for a return to International recognition in 2011.
Alva’s Lawrence Allan went even better in the 72 hole Fairhaven Trophy event as part of a 12 strong Scottish squad competing there. Over the first 36 holes, Scotland won the Nations cup, and Lawrence was one of the three nominated players in the Scottish team. ----pleasing to note they beat the English team by one shot. Only 5 Scots made the 36 hole cut and it was Lawrence who finished top Scot at the end of the tournament with a 12th equal finish on 312 (78,77,74,83) in difficult windy conditions.
His finish was ahead of some experienced Scottish players and (like Bob), a few more performances along the same lines must give him a chance for Scottish selection.
Lawrence will have another chance this weekend when he competes in the 72 hole Scottish Youths Championship to be held at Paisley.

BUSY TIME FOR COUNTY GOLFERS

It’s a busy two weeks on the county golfing scene with the Boys Match play events ( Tulliallan, Braehead, Dollar) and the County Club Foursomes Championship being held at Dollar It will give the County players a chance to sharpen their games for the National events later--- the Scottish Area Team Championship and the Boys Area Team Championship.
Tillicoultry hosts its Open events this weekend with the scratch to 12 Division being held on Saturday and the 13-28 Division on Sunday. Hopefully Tillicoultry will take late entries---the smaller County Golf Clubs always welcome a boost in numbers----so if anyone is interested then maybe just contact the golf club.
