STUART BALLINGALL: COULD HE BE SURPRISE WALKER CUP SCOT?

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

If the Great Britain and Ireland team of 10 for September's Walker Cup match against the United States at Royal Aberdeen were chosen this weekend - and the selectors took the top 10 eligible players in the RandA World Amateur Rankings, Anglo-Scot Stuart Ballingall would gain the 10th place.
Stuart who? Ballingall is quite a famous name in Scotland's golfing past but Stuart is better known in Norwich circles - and in American college golf than he is North of the Border.
Norwich-born Stuart Ballingall, pictured, was capped for Scotland at Under-18 level but he has never been quoted for a full Scotland cap.
So why is he the 10th highest ranked GB and I player in the official list?
Because Stuart is a star for the University of Missouri golf team. Now sophomore (second-year student), Ballingall won his first-ever event on the US college circuit and keeps getting very good results on the other side of the Atlantic.
Every week from now on, I am going to give you an update of the possible GB and I Walker Cup team, based on the WAGR which is the figure at the start of each line:
THE TOP TEN CANDIDATES
15 James Byrne (Scotland).
17 Andrew Sullivan (England).
21 Paul Cutler (Ireland).
35 Tom Lewis (England).
39 Jack Senior (England).
51 Michael Stewart (Scotland).
69 Kevin Phelan (Ireland).
106 Laurie Cantor (England).
149 Rhys Pugh (Wales).
159 Stuart Ballingall (Scotland).

NEXT ON THE FRINGE
161 Stiggy Hodgson (England).
167 Ross Kellett (Scotland).
171 Andrew Cooley (England).
174 Eddie Pepperell (England).
