BANCHORY MAKE BYRNE AN HONORARY MEMBER

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Banchory have made James Byrne , Scotland ’s highest world ranked amateur golfer, an honorary member at the age of 21.
Club captain Rod Dallas explained that it was for James' outstanding achievements in amateur golf and for being such a fine young man and a credit to the Banchory Golf Club.
Byrne, a student at Arizona State University and currently playing in the European individual amateur championship in Finland , said by E-mail:
“It is perhaps uncommon for a 21 year old to be presented with an honorary membership, so to receive such an award at this stage in my career is a great honour. The Banchory Golf Club members have always been extremely supportive of me and I consider myself lucky to have grown up playing golf with the support and encouragement of so many people.
“The ceremony last week was well attended and I received an amazing reception from those present. As I mentioned that night, I am very thankful for the support of the Banchory membership and I hope to be a good ambassador for the club both now and in the future.”
Banchory Golf Club's list of honorary members of note includes Paul Lawrie and Harry Bannerman, both Ryder Cup players, Greig Hutcheon and Bruce Davidson for his continuing efforts in the Grampian Houston Trips for youngsters. Greig and Bruce were both junior members of the club.
