Callum Shinkwin in England boys' team for Southerness next week

Newly-crowned English boys champion Callum Shinkwin has been named in the 11 strong England Squad for the Boys Home Internationals at Southerness Golf Club next week (August 3 to 5).
He is one of seven new caps that will defend the title won at Hankley Common last year.
The new caps are Oliver Carr (Heswall, Cheshire), Harry Casey (Enfield, Middlesex), Jack Heasman (West Essex, Essex), Nathan Kimsey (Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire), Callum Shinkwin (Moor Park, Hertfordshire), Toby Tree (Worthing, Sussex) and Colin Walsh (Hayling, Hampshire, IoW & CI).
The rest of the team is James Burnett (Sleaford, Lincolnshire), Greg Eason (Kirby Muxloe, Leicestershire), Paul Lockwood (Hessle, Yorkshire) and Nick Newbold (Kedleston Park, Derbyshire), all of whom represented England in the European Boys Team Championships earlier this month.
Shinkwin won the English Boys under 18 Championship for the Carris Trophy at Woodhall Spa last week by seven strokes from Casey and Lockwood after stunning rounds of 67 and 68 over the testing par 73 Hotchkin Course.
Carr, a former Cheshire junior champion, was capped at under 16 level and finished runner-up in this year’s Fairhaven Trophy, while Casey is another former under 16 cap and Middlesex under 16 champion, who was fourth in the Fairhaven event.
Heasman, also an under 16 cap, reached the quarter finals of the British Boys last year and finished fifth in this year’s Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters, won by Kimsey after a three-way playoff at Nizels in Kent. Kimsey also finished runner-up in the Lincolnshire Championship.
Tree won the English under 16 Championship for the McGregor Trophy at Prince’s two weeks ago, having been under 14 Champion in 2008, was the winner of the Douglas Johns Trophy last year and an under 16 cap, while Walsh, also capped at under 16 level, was tied fifth in the Carris Trophy.
Burnett is another who has stepped up from under 16 level, having tied for the Junior County Champions title in 2009. This year, he has finished runner-up in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters and fifth in the Fairhaven Trophy, while Eason finished third in this year’s McEvoy Trophy and tied fifth in the Midland Boys.
Apart from finishing runner-up in last week’s Carris Trophy, Lockwood was also second in the Yorkshire Boys Championship and finished joint sixth in the McEvoy, while Newbold, another under 16 cap, was beaten in a playoff for the McGregor Trophy last year and finished fourth in the 2010 Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters.
England has a sparkling record in the Boys Home Internationals having finished champions 11 times in the past 14 years.
