ROBERT ARNOTT WINS IN BALTIC


CONDITIONS AT PORTLETHEN

It’s not often that a par round wins a Tartan Tour pro-am in the third week of June – but that’s what happened at Portlethen Golf Club today.
In Baltic conditions with a bitterly cold wind – the temperature was as low as eight degrees by the finish – Robert Arnott’s 72 won him the top individual prize of £1,084 by a shot from James McGhee (Turnhouse) and PGA Cup player Craig Matheson (Falkirk Tryst) who each earned £758.
Underlining the wintry conditions, there were three No Returns by professionals.
Arnott, pictured, a former PGA Cup team man, had a double bogey 6 at the first and also dropped shots at the eighth and 17th but he cancelled the mistakes out with birdies at the third, fourth, 10th and 18th in halves of 37 and 35.
Two teams returned net scores of 11 under par 61 in the pro-am section. Winners on the better inward half were the Flotec amateur trio of Andrew Florence (handicap 6), Stuart Florence (9) and Rory Campbell (18). Their pro was Craig Gordon (Edinburgh Golf Centre).
They pipped the Rigmar team of Gary Chalmers (12), Ken Mack (13) and Charles Macgregor (15) spearheded by Turnberry Hotel pro Ross Leeds.
