North-east Alliance foursomes finals
-
Inchmarlo Golf Resort tour pro Paul Cormack, winner of the North-east Alliance championship last week, failed to pull off the winter circuit's end-of-season double.
He and amateur partner Mike Jenkins, a Duff House Royal Senior member, lost by 2 and 1 to Aboyne assistant Keil Beveridge and Murcar Links amateur Kyle Nelson in today's (Friday) final of the North-east Alliance pro-am foursomes at Murcar Links.
Beveridge, boyfriend of Scotland amateur international player Laura Murray (Alford), did not qualify for the foursomes championship but was called into action on Thursday morning as a substitute for James Mooney (Kingscliffe). At the end of two days, he had won himself an unexpected windfall of £80.
All square after losing the 15th, Beveridge and Nelson regained a winning lead by taking the 16th and 17th holes for a 2 and 1 victory, achieved with mainly par figures. They collected the Evening Express Shield.
Nelson's local knowledge was a key factor, particularly in first and second-round wins in Thursday's foggy conditions.
In the all-amateur handicap foursomes, Charles Cassie (Nigg Bay) (5) and Nigel Parker (Murcar Links) (9) beat Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) (+2) and Neil Chisholm (Kemnay) (9) by 4 and 2 in the final of The Press and Journal Shield.
Cassie and Parker received four strokes.
All square after 12 holes, Cassie and Parker, who was suffering from a groin strain, made the most of receiving a stroke to win the 13th, thanks to a great three-wood by Cassie. They then birdied the 14th to double their advantage and kept up the winning roll to win the 15th - another excellent approach shot by Cassie - and 16th
