Wood, Shields and O'Hara share lead at

halfway in Lanark's Newlands Trophy

The stage is set for a final 36 holes of fluctuating fortunes in the SGU 72-hole Order of Merit event, the Newlands Trophy, at Lanark Golf Club on Sunday.
Three players - Ed Wood (Crow Wood), Paul Shields (Kirkhill) and Paul O'Hara (Colville Park) - are sharing the lead on level par 140.
Shields has been beaten in the last two Scottish boys' match-play finals. Walker Cup reserve O'Hara has already won the Edwards Trophy over 54 holes at Glasgow Gailes and the Sutherland Chalice at Dumfries.
Three shots cover the leading eight players with young James Hendrick (Pollok) on 141 followed by Andrew Wallace (Glenbervie) and Chris Lawton (Stirling) on 142, and North-east challenger Kris Nicol (Fraserburgh), recent winner of the North-east District Open at Peterhead, and last year's Scottish boys' stroke-play champion Mark Bookless (Sandyhills) on 143.
A total of 46 players qualified with totals of 155 or better for the final two rounds.
