Lothians captain Nicholson seeks fresh blood

after three defeats in area team championship

Lothians captain Keith Nicholson today conceded that he is hoping to have some new faces in his team for next year's (new-look) Scottish area team championship.
The Haddington star was reflecting on a disappointing campaign for the record 12-times winners in this year's event.
They ended the round-robin phase with three defeats from three games after going down 6½-2½ to Perth & Kinross at Crieff yesterday. "It just didn't happen for us," reflected Nicholson, who took over the reins at the start of the season following the appointment of Scott Knowles as the Scottish captain.
"We always knew that Perth & Kinross would have some quality players in their side and, on the day, they were sharper around the greens."
Reflecting on the campaign overall, he added: "It is disappointing and, as we start to look to next season, I am certainly hoping that we have some new faces for this event next May."
While conceding that this season's results were well below the standard set by Lothians in the event, Nicholson refused to point a finger of blame at his players.
He added: "The guys have tried their hardest in every game. I've been in that position myself and it certainly isn't through lack of effort that we've not done as well as we'd have liked in this year's event.
"I know that some people have been saying we should be giving younger guys a chance but it's a big step-up for some of them. They've now had another year and I am sure they will come good when they are eventually given their chance."
Duddingston duo Stuart Smith and David Miller provided the sole success in the morning foursomes at Crieff before Miller completed a good day's work with a one-hole win over Tom McLevy in the singles.
But, apart from a half secured by Allyn Dick in the top match, that was all the visitors could muster in the afternoon session.
