Nine Scots crash out, including

Colin Montgomerie after an 81

The Spanish Open became another Culloden or Flodden for the Scots today - slaughter in the sunshine. Nine Scots failed to beat the cut - a par total of 144 was all that was required - but David Drysdale, Chris Doak and Richie Ramsay plummeted from first-day scores in the 60s to second-day scores in the high 70s.

It's been a long time since Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, pictured right, returned an 81 but that was his second-round total today and a 36-hole tally of 153 was NINE shots too many. Didn't Colin say that getting the captaincy would enable him to relax and play better?

Even Scotland's pin-up boy, Callum Macaulay, required ELEVEN more shots to get round compared with his brilliant opening round of 65. A 76 for 141 put him 10 shots off the pace.
France's Thomas Levet made the early second-day running and was still there in the pole position at the end of Day 2 in the European Tour's Open de Espana at the PGA Golf de Catalunya near Girona in North-east Spain.
Levet followed up a 64 with a 67 for 13-under-par 131.
Overnight leader Seren Hansen (DeNmark) slipped from a 63 to a 70 to be lying second on 133, one ahead of Irishman Peter Lawrie who had a second-round 66.
