Runner-up John Gallagher looking forward
to Tour Q School start at Dundonald

FROM THE EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS
By MARTIN DEMPSTER
A last-round wash-out denied Capital ace John Gallagher the chance of victory in what could be one of his last events as an amateur.
The Swanston star shot three consecutive 70s to lie just one shot off the lead going into the final circuit in the South East District Open at Duddingston on Sunday. But, just as he was about to set off in his chase of the leader, Dollar's Scott Borrowman, organisers abandoned play because of the weather.
The title was decided, therefore, over 54 holes, with Borrowman's total of 209 giving him victory by one shot over Gallagher in the Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit counting event.
"I'm a bit disappointed as I was looking forward to getting out there for the final round," said Gallagher. "However I must admit that I had a feeling it would be decided over three rounds and, in fairness, there was no question over the decision to cancel the last round."
Gallagher, the 2007 Scottish champion, was bitterly disappointed after losing his place in the Scottish team for this week's Home Internationals at Muirfield. But, buoyed by his weekend play, he is now looking forward to launching his bid for a European Tour card next week.
"This is my best finish of the season and now I'm really looking forward to the first phase of the Qualifying School at Dundonald next week," he added."I'm going to practise there this week and might play in the Newlands Trophy at Lanark (the final Order of Merit event of the season] before the Qualifying School event itself at Dundonald."
