Drummond's putting spooky - but
he's only three behind Brand & wife

From Nat Sylvester, PGA Press Officer
Ross Drummond admits he was spooked by his putting after slipping to a third round 76 for 220 in the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship at Slaley Hall today.
But the 6ft 4in Scot, who missed a string of short putts, is still in contention, just three shots behind Yorkshireman Gordon J Brand who stormed through the field with a magnificent 68.
Overnight leaders Drummond and Spain’s Juan Quiros, who also had a 76, are four over for the tournament alongside Andrew Murray with Domingo Hospital one better in second place after a two under par 70 for 219.
“I think it all came down to my putting at the end of the day," said Drummond.“I played well enough tee to green, probably not as much control as in the first two rounds but certainly well enough.
“I missed so many short putts. I missed a couple on the front nine, missed a tiny one on 12 from two-and-a-half feet for birdie. I then three-putted 14 from three feet and that just spooks you a little bit and my stroke was just terrible."
Stirling’s John Chillas is one of four players tied on five over par 221 alongside Italian’s Costantino Rocca, Giuseppe Cali and Sky TV pundit Tony Johnstone.
Meanwhile a putting tip from his wife paid rich dividends for Brand. The 53-year-old Yorkshireman credited wife Lyn, a former professional golfer herself, with his success on the greens which catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard with a four-under-par 68 - the lowest score of the week so far - for a one-over 217 total.
“I worked on a few things before I went out with my wife’s help because she reckons she can putt,” said the 53-year-old Brand.“She keeps threatening to bin the one I’ve got but I’ve managed to keep hold of it.
“She was a pro for two years so I can’t ignore her.”
“I putted well today. I did have one three-putt, but I made up for it by holing plenty – especially on the back nine. So I’m a lot happier. I even managed a few single putts in a row. Anyone can get one in, but if you get two or three in succession, your brain believes you can get some more. Everyone is finding it hard to get the pace of the greens, because they are quite fast.”
Brand leads by two shots from Hospital, who had briefly grabbed the clubhouse lead after shooting a two under par 70 for 219.
Hospital said: “It was a super round – nearly everything went right, and there are some tough holes out there. I made bogey on nine, which is almost like a par, but the rest of my round was good.”
